Wildlife, Hunting, and Fishing

Wildlife is all around us. Whether you are a hunter, fisherman, hiker, or just enjoy being outdoors, you can encounter different kinds of wild animals. Wild animals might even live in your neighborhood or visit your backyard. Here you will learn more information about wildlife in Nevada, how to get involved, and how you can keep yourself and animals healthy from zoonotic diseases.

What should I do if I have been bitten or scratched by a wild animal? 

  • If the bite or scratch was caused by a wild animal, see your doctor for treatment immediately.
    • The animal bite will need to be reported by your doctor to the local animal control authority/local healthy authority because of the risk of exposure to rabies. 
    • Bats often carry rabies and can infect humans without leaving obvious signs of a bite. CDC recommends that anyone who is around a bat see their doctor about rabies shots even if you don’t think you have been bitten. 
  • To reduce the risk of bites from wild animals: avoid close contact with wild animals (look, do not touch), do not keep wild animals as pets and never feed wild animals. Even animals that look healthy can carry diseases, so it is best to keep a safe distance.

Nevada Youth License Fund– This fund will allow members of the public and non-profit organizations to donate money to cover the cost of youth combination licenses for kids so that the cost of a license is not a barrier to kids having FUN outdoors in Nevada.
